Challenge
The original goal for this sophisticated e-commerce website was for Alaska Native artists to post products for sale online and bypass the costly middle-man. This could potentially provide an additional source of income for individuals who live in Alaska bush communities and do not have as many income opportunities as more urban areas.
Solution
During the development phase, the decision was made to open up this website to all Alaskan artists. That would increase the client base, but still meet the important goal of providing a potential revenue source for Alaska bush communities.
The website allows artists to create their own online store and sell their products directly to customers around the world. There are no costly fees associated with retail art shops, which allows artists to gain fair value for their products and also provides savings to buyers.
